Perry Mason

HBO

To celebrate the 1930s world of HBO’s Perry Mason, we created an in-home Prohibition dining and cocktail experience that allowed influencers, show talent and fans to uncover Easter Eggs about the series while honoring the city of Los Angeles and its legacy establishments.

Musso & Frank Grill has been an LA institution serving the Hollywood elite since 1919, and in pre-pandemic days, it could have been the ideal spot for an HBO shindig for the Depression-era drama Perry Mason. But as Los Angeles’ COVID-19 cases continued to climb, we needed a way to celebrate the show bringing in HBO’s biggest series premiere rating in two years in a way that was socially distanced, bespoke, and supported the small businesses and iconic hotspots that make all LA city dramas great.

We delivered four-course meals from the historically un-takeout Musso & Frank, in addition to Prohibition kits, stocked with alcohol and syrups disguised in milk bottles from Mason Farm. Those bottles were filled with Old Forester Rye Whiskey, which dates to 1870, and Mulholland Distillery’s New World Gin, along with Liquid Alchemist’s small batch elixirs, both made in downtown LA. Out-of-town influencers received a different gift package, including black and white cookies from the iconic Canter’s Deli and hot mustard from French dip restaurant Philippe The Original.

Tucked in each box were branded bar tools, glassware in a hand-made custom wooden box, and a 1930s-style newspaper with cocktail recipes from Leandro DiMonriva, a mixologist and YouTube creator who filmed eight Prohibition-era drink tutorials debuting with each Perry Mason episode on HBO’s YouTube Channel.
